CMS Puts Transgender Bathroom Plan On Hold
CHARLOTTE, NC– Transgender students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will have to use the bathroom that corresponds to the gender on their birth certificates; at least for now.
Superintendent Ann Clark released a statement late today saying, “We have placed a temporary hold on the section of the CMS bullying prevention regulation which states that transgender students will be given access to the restroom and locker room facilities corresponding to their gender identity.”
The district made the decision following a Supreme Court ruling Wednesday.
The justices decided a Virginia school board can keep a transgender student from using the boy’s bathroom until it decides whether to review the case.
Gavin Grimm sued, saying his high school violated Title IX Discrimination Policy by forcing him to use the girl’s bathroom.
