Whitewater Center Prepares To Reopen Rafting Channels This Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The U.S. National Whitewater Center anticipates reopening its whitewater channels sometime this week according to officials.

WhiteWaterQuestions-imageWhitewater activities have been suspended since the water tested positive for a brain eating amoeba.  The testing came after an 18-year-old Ohio woman died from the amoeba in June.

The channels have been drained and cleaned, and the USNWC began refilling the channels on Friday.

“We have not released an official date yet, but anticipate it being later this week,” said Brand Manager Eric Osterhus, regarding the reopening of the channels.
