Cheraw Police Chief Keith Thomas has identified the victim as 45-year-old Timothy Kelly.
Police say the accident happened at the Marion Street crossing around 12:05am Monday.
Kelly was pronounced dead on the scene.
Cheraw Police are investigating the accident.
CHERAW, SC — Amtrak officials say they are working with local authorities after a person was hit and killed just after midnight Monday.
A spokesperson with Amtrak says Train 91 (the Silver Star) hit a trespasser on the tracks around 12:28am just south of Hamlet, NC.
The train travels daily between New York City and Miami and was carrying 262 passengers at the time of the incident. No other injuries were reported.
Local authorities are investigating.
