Fast Moving Storm Leaves Behind Damage in East Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC – Thousands of people were without power Sunday night after a fast moving storm blew through East Charlotte.
“It was all blowing horizontally, like you’d probably see in a gust in a hurricane,” explained East Charlotte resident Jules Fraytet.
People living off Eastway Drive say the sudden storm packed a punch they didn’t expect.
“A lot of the trees and limbs were moving back and forth pretty rapidly, pretty violently,” Fraytet said.
Police blocked Markham Court. Neighbors say they heard a loud boom, then a pole snapped,- leaving downed power lines.
People nearby are being told it could be a couple days before their power is back on.
Nearby on Kilbourne Drive, Terrie Neeley and her family were grilling out when the storm approached.
“We heard the crack over here and this oak tree cracked in half,” she explains.
Part of the tree fell on her 91-year-old father’s home. “He’s on oxygen. They’re telling me they’re going to get the power back on as soon as possible for him,” Neeley said.
On Folkston Drive, neighbors say a tree was struck by lighting. Part of it crashed into a home.
No one was hurt., but the family living there will have to stay somewhere else for awhile.
There was also some damage at a home on Arnold Drive.
