Rowan Post 342 to play for American Legion World Series Title

SHELBY, NC (WCCB Charlotte) –Rowan Post 342 will play for an American Legion World Series Title on Tuesday.

The team from Salisbury pounded out 15 hits on way to a 13-4 semifinal win over San Mateo, CA at Keeter Stadium on Monday afternoon. Like the ALWS semifinal, the championship game will be played live on ESPNu.

Juan Garcia stuffed the box score going 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs, three RBI and a stolen base in the win. Rowan Post 342 battled back from a 2-0 first inning hole. They followed up a two-run second inning with a four-run third frame to take the lead for good.

One of the team’s coach’s, Jim Gantt, said this team has been a joy to coach.

“We didn’t see it coming early on but these guys bought in to what we were trying to teach them,” Gantt said. “They play for each other and have done that all summer. They have approached it the right way.”

Tuesday’s title game is at 7pm at Keeter Stadium on the campus of Shelby High School.

Rowan County’s Little League Softball team is also currently in their respective world series. They will play in the semifinals at 4pm Tuesday in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN.
