Fatal Accident Closes Portion Of Wilkinson Blvd, Victim Identified

CHARLOTTE, NC — Duke Energy crews say Wilkinson Boulevard inbound at Sparta Avenue will be closed until around 12pm Thursday following a fatal overnight accident.

The accident happened just before 12:30am on Wilkinson Blvd near Rosemont St. Police say 22-year-old Zachary Eubanks was driving his 2014 Dodge Ram when he ran off the side of the road, clipped a utility pole, slid sideways, and overturned hitting several more utility poles and boxes before coming to a rest.

Investigators say Eubanks was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead.

Reed Camp, 23, and Ian Stanley, 22, were riding with Eubanks at the time of the accident. Neither person was wearing a seatbelt. Police say Camp was transported with minor injuries, and Stanley was taken with serious injuries but is listed in stable condition.

Investigators say speed and alcohol are considered to be factors in the crash.

Officers will be redirecting traffic in the area. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes to avoid the area if possible.
