Police Provide Update On Murder Of 3-Year-Old In Gaston County
GASTON COUNTY, N.C. –Police released a timeline outlining the calls for service at the home where a Gaston County toddler lived prior to being murdered.
The man accused of killing three-year-old Jordyn Dumont faced a judge Wednesday. William ‘Skip’ McCullen is being held in the Gaston County Jail without bond.
Gaston County Police continue to conduct a follow-up investigation into the death of Jordyn Dumont.
As part of the investigation, police are looking at the call history for the residence at 1904 Bess Town Rd, Bessemer City, the home of Jordyn Dumont.
Investigators released the following timeline to get a better understanding for the calls for service at the home where Dumont lived:
Jordyn Dumont moved to the home with her mother, Jaylene Dumont, and William McCullen in early November, 2015. Since that date, the Gaston County Police have responded to the address 16 times for a variety of reasons.
11/03/2015: William McCullen called reference trespass issue. (William had inherited house and his sister and her associates were living at the house).
11/12/2015: Jaylene Dumont called police for person refusing to leave house. (person left before police arrived).
11/12/2015: Police called out to residence due to William McCullen’s concern that people from earlier call may come back.
11/13/2015: William McCullen called police with further information on previous day’s call.
11/27/2015: Officer went to house three times this date looking for an unrelated person that used to live there. (considered 3 separate calls)
12/23/2015: Officer dispatched to check for a stolen vehicle (Vehicle was found and Donald Wallace arrested)
01/09/2016: Jaylene Dumont called when William McCullen left house with her wallet. (not a crime).
02/19/2016: Attempting to locate a stolen vehicle (not found).
03/16/2016: Larceny of lawn equipment reported by Jaylene Dumont (Property dispute that is a civil matter).
04/06/2016: Person came to house to retrieve medication and McCullen and Dumont would not let him in.
05/14/2016: Argument between two unrelated people who were there babysitting. Reporting person was concerned for children. No issues discovered.
06/02/2016: Jordyn Dumont’s biological father called to have police check her welfare due to not hearing from Jaylene Dumont in a while. Jaylene told officer that she did not want to have any contact from Jordan’s father. Officer returned to the residence a short time later to follow up with Jaylene Dumont about the same call. No issues with the children were discovered. (considered two separate calls)
06/06/2016: Jordyn Dumont’s biological father called again wanting to have the police check on the welfare of children in the house after he received a letter from Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services. Officer checked on the children and found no issues.
The remaining 33 calls were associated with relatives and their associates living at the address prior to the arrival of William and Jaylene in November.

The Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services released the following statement:
The Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services has received numerous media inquiries about our involvement with Jordyn Dumont. Per state statute, in child fatalities where a criminal case is imminent, information is often restricted in order to ensure a fair trial and ensure the prosecution’s case is not impacted. Due to the outpouring of public concern and level of misinformation, we have received permission from the District Attorney to share information as allowed by law.
We would also like to remind the public that the law requires everyone to report suspected child abuse or neglect in North Carolina. Call our child abuse hotline – which operates 24/7 – at 704-862- 7555.
We will continue to work closely with our community partners to ensure we all are doing everything we can to prevent abuse or neglect.
Jordyn Dumont Case Summary
Report received: March 15, 2016. Report accepted for family assessment of suspected neglect due to improper supervision and substance abuse.
Assessment: Gaston County DHHS conducted 5 unannounced home visits between March 18 and May 19, 2016. The Department found no evidence the children lacked appropriate supervision or were impacted by parental substance abuse. References, including family members and a neighbor, were contacted and reported having no concerns with the children or parents.
Results: A Family Assessment was completed and the case was closed May 20, 2016. The Department found the family to have stable housing, the ability to meet basic needs, family support, and employment for Mr. McCullen. The Department made the following recommendations: the family should maintain a drug-free home and sober adult supervision for the children; Mr. McCullen should obtain a substance abuse assessment and comply with any recommendations; the children should maintain regular medical care; and the parents should maintain positive communication.
