Victim and Suspects Identified In Fatal Union County Shooting
MONROE, NC — Union County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested two suspects after one person was killed and another injured in a shootout Wednesday evening.
The shooting happened around 7:30pm at a home on Ruben Road across the street from Prospect Elementary School. According to a report, 20-year-old Trenton Chambers and 18-year-old Bentley Ivey, both of Wingate, NC, drove to the home for a drug deal. During the transaction Chambers and Ivey tried to rob one of the two people in the home, and a gunfight broke out. Ivey was injured and one of the other men, 26-year-old Matthew Watson, was killed.
Deputies found Chambers and Ivey in a nearby Church. Ivey was treated and released from CMC for his injuries.
The two suspects have been charged with first degree murder.
