Deadly Trooper Involved Shooting In University Area

CHARLOTTE, NC — An investigation is underway after a fatal trooper involved shooting Thursday evening in northeast Charlotte.

According to a release, troopers got involved in a chase around 6:15pm on I-485 near mile marker 30 after the driver of a Volvo failed to stop. The chase ended on Seven Oaks Drive when the driver stopped, got out of the vehicle, and encountered troopers.

Officials say troopers fired on the suspect, but have not said what led to the shooting. The suspect died of injuries on the scene.

The NC Highway Patrol and SBI are investigating. The trooper has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for trooper involved shootings.
