A Fatal Accident Saturday Morning Leaves One Dead And One Charged With DWI

CMPD responded to a fatal accident in Charlotte where a 23-year-old is charged for driving while impaired.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person is dead and three others are left injured after a impaired driver hit the car they were riding in early Saturday.

CMPD responded to an accident on the 11200 block of South Tryon Street near the intersection of Moss Road around 2:12 a.m. Saturday morning.

Officials say 23-year-old Kelly Ann Conkin was driving an 2013 Hyundai Elantra when she struck a concrete curb and crossed over two lanes of traffic.

Police say Conkin traveled through the median into the opposing lanes, striking a 2015 Toyota Camry with four occupants.

Officials say one of occupants of the Toyota Camry died. CMPD say that 79-year-old Cecelia Buitiago De Gonzalez died at CMC from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

Conkin was transported to CMC with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, Farshad Hosseini, was also transported to CMC with serious injuries. Front seat passenger, Sonia Rocio Gonzalez, and an 12-year-old passenger were transported to CMC with minor injuries.

Police charged Conkin at CMC with Driving While Impaired. She is currently listed in serious condition requiring hospitalization.

Detectives have charged Conkin with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, Felony Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle, Careless/Reckless Driving and Possession of Marijuana.

Officials say the arrest warrants will be served upon Conkin’s release from CMC.

Conkin was arrested back in 2013 with Driving While Impaired, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Drive After Consuming < 21.
