CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person is dead after a fatal collision Saturday night shortly before midnight in south Charlotte.
Officers say they responded to a collision involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a car in the 1500 block of Providence Road.
Police say the pedestrian was attempting to cross Providence Road and stepped off the curb directly into the path of a 1999 Volvo S70 sedan.
Officers say the pedestrian was dead upon their arrival.
Police say the driver of the car did not have enough time to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
According to CMPD, the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk or crossing at an intersection when he was struck.
Police say drugs, alcohol, and speed were not factors for the driver of the Volvo, but do believe the pedestrian may have been intoxicated.
The name of the pedestrian has not been released at the time.
This is an ongoing investigation.
