Record Turnout for Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade
CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte Pride directors are still tallying the final numbers, but they say a record crowd turned out for this year’s festival and parade.
Colt Vore and Taco Dorantes say they saw protesters but not any problems.
“It’s been safe. The police have done an excellent job. And it’s been fun. This might be the best pride on the planet,” Vore says.
WCCB is still waiting on details about a couple of arrests.
Police arrested Daniel Gardner and Michael Behrle around 6:00pm Saturday.
The pair is charged with second degree trespassing.
WCCB is asking police what the two were doing when they were arrested.
Organizers say people coming together to fight North Carolina’s House Bill 2 played a role in this year’s larger attendance.
WCCB is told the most significant increase came during the parade.
