CMS Pushes Forward With Controversial Student Assignment Plans
CHARLOTTE, NC– The CMS Board of Education continues to craft its controversial plan for future student assignment.
The board heard an update on Phase One, dealing with magnet schools, tonight from the consulting firm CMS has hired to help with the process.
One of the suggestions dealt with the possibility of using the magnet lottery as a tool for students to transfer out of low-performing schools.
“It’s selective enrollment for some of our schools for our students who really want that, even have a sibling already there, but they can’t get in,” said Thelma Byers-Bailey of the CMS Board of Education.
CMS recently held 12 community engagement sessions across the district to hear parents concerns. More than 12-hundred people attended.
