Rock Hill Schools Approves Sale Of District Office Building & Property

ROCK HILL, SC — On Monday night the Rock Hill Schools Board of Trustees voted in favor of selling the current district office location to build a new office on district-owned property.

The N. Anderson Road location has served as the district’s main offices since 1992. The property was put up for sale back in February 2012, but no acceptable offers were made until recently.

Officials say they voted 4-3 Monday night to accept an offer of $2.7 million for the 42,500 square feet of office space and 12 acres of land. The purchasing company will also meet a required condition that allows the district 12 months to move out of the old building while new offices are built. District officials say the moving process will not interrupt the quality of services and operations.

District staff and their construction management partners are in the process of looking for the best location for the new office building, whether it involves a renovation of an existing building or new construction. A budget of no more than $6.5 million was agreed upon during a second vote Monday night, which passed 5-2.

Officials say the new offices will be more streamlined than the old building, and is expected to save taxpayers more than $130,000 each year in operating costs.
