Deputies Find Meth Lab At Home Of Suspect Charged In Rowan County Murder

WOODLEAF, NC — Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested the suspect they say shot and killed a man early Monday morning.

Deputies found 54-year-old Dewey Gray shot in his driveway at 5985 Foster Road around 2am. According to deputies, Gray said he was shot by a man nicknamed “Booker” before being airlifted to Baptist Hospital for treatment.

Gray later died at the hospital from his injuries.

Investigators identified “Booker” as 21-year-old James Stewart who lived a mile down the road from Gray. When officials arrested Stewart they found several one pot meth labs in his home.

Stewart has been charged with the murder of Gray and is being held without bond at the Rowan County Detention Center.

Officials say warrants are being issued to continue an investigation into the meth labs.
