Huge Delays Continue on Independence Boulevard After Burst Water Pipe

[UPDATE]

Crews now say it could be 12pm Tuesday before the work is completed and lanes are reopened.

Only the left lane is open at this time. Drivers should use Monroe Road as an alternate.

Expect heavy delays in the area once again in that area as you head to work or school.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Crews are working to repair an eight-foot hole they had to cut into outbound Independence Boulevard to fix a broken water main. It’s caused major traffic headaches near Wallace Road.

Work that was supposed to be done at 7:00 Monday night now won’t be done until at least 6:00 Tuesday morning.

For now, people are being asked to stay away from that part of outbound Independence and use Monroe Road as an alternate.

The traffic issues also had an impact on schools. Some kids got home late because their bus was stuck in traffic.

We also saw an ambulance trying to make it’s way through the backups.

It also affected local businesses. Lots of people stopped at one car dealership, but not to look at cars.

“We’ve had people stop in to our location to do things like use the restroom. Gas. We’ve had to help one sweet lady with getting gasoline for her car,” says Britt Pope.

Now people here just hope there won’t be another delay.

“I’m scared to death. Because now I’m worried 6:00 am will turn into 12:00 tomorrow and so forth,” Pope says.
