Cherryville Woman Arrested For Food Stamp Fraud

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Investigators say a woman was arrested for illegally using another person’s food stamps.

Deputies stopped Sandra Gaul on September 6th for a traffic violation.  A deputy discovered a food stamp card, also known as an EBT card, belonging to another woman who was institutionalized in a nursing facility since May 2016.

Sandra GaulInvestigators determined Gaul had been using the car to make purchases since June.  Gaul has been charged with twelve counts of identity theft and eight counts of illegal possession and use of food stamps/EBT card.

When deputies tried to take Gaul in custody for the charges on September 7th, she is accused of jumping out of a window and running from them.  Once deputies caught Gaul, she was also charged with resist, delay and obstruct a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gaul was given a $52,000 secured bond.
