The Edgitators: Should the Police Video Law be Repealed?

Chief Kerr Putney says the decision to release more dash and body cam video in the Keith Scott shooting is out of his hands. He told us he’s waiting for the district attorney to weigh in first.

Thousands have called out the Chief and Mayor Jennifer Roberts for the handling of that shooting. Many worry that the time is ticking to release more police footage because of a new state law. House Bill 972 keeps police body cam and dash cam video from being made public record without a court order.

“As far as I’m concerned, I know what the law that starts on October 1st looks like,” said Chief Putney. “I got to make sure we can operate within that, and if I release with this, that’s what people will expect, even thought that’s not what they might be able to get. So I have to do that delicate balance.”

And that brings us to our Question of the Night: Should the police video law be repealed?
