Four Prison Staff Members Stabbed By Inmates At Lanesboro Correctional

Update 9:50pm: Officials say two of the staff members that were stabbed today have been treated and released from the hospital. The lieutenant and sergeant remain hospitalized but are expected to recover.


POLKTON, NC — Lanesboro Correctional Institution is on a temporary lockdown after officials say four prison staff members were stabbed by inmates.

lanesboroOfficials say the incident started around 2pm Thursday when two prison staff members, a lieutenant and a sergeant, were stabbed by inmates. Two other correctional officers were also assaulted with broom handles, according to reports.

The four stabbing victims are being treated at a local hospital, while the other two officers were treated on site by prison medical staff.

Officers say there were three inmates believed to have been involved in the assault.

The Polkton Police Department has asked the SBI to help with the investigation. The prison is currently on temporary lockdown as a result of the incident.
