CHARLOTTE, N.C. – 1 person is dead after a multi-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at the 900 block of Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood.
Officials say shortly after 4:30 p.m., Karen Frierson, 55, was driving a 2011 Ford Escape and was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue when she appeared to have suffered a medical event while driving.
Frierson’s 2011 Ford Escape then struck the back of a 2013 Ford Fusion that was slowing down for traffic.
CMPD say that Frierson continued to travel eastbound in the right lane of Central Avenue where the Ford Escape struck the rear of a CATS Bus which was stopped for the traffic light at the intersection of Central Avenue and Louise Avenue.
Officials say that the Cats Bus had 13 passengers on-board at the time of the rear end crash.
Frierson and her passenger were transported to CMC-Main.
Officers say Frierson was pronounced deceased at CMC-Main a short time later.
CMPD say that two passengers on the CATS Bus were also transported to CMC-Main for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
