Child Struck By Vehicle While Walking To School Bus

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools issues a statement regarding Tuesday morning’s accident:

“The safety of our students is a top priority. We are deeply saddened by this morning’s accident and our thoughts and prayers are with the student and her family. CMS Transportation Services always works to provide safe bus stop locations for our students. At this time, the district is actively reviewing requests received regarding this bus stop and any associated changes to it to determine if any changes are needed.”


CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a child was struck by a vehicle in northwest Charlotte.

The accident happened around 7:30am.  Detectives say an 11-year-old girl was struck by a car on Lasalle Street near I-77 as she was crossing the street to get on a school bus.

Officials say the student goes to Bruns Academy and was headed to a camp being held at the school as students are away on break.

The child was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The driver stayed at the scene and is speaking with detectives.
