Hurricane Matthew’s Impact On The Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Expect more clouds Friday and Saturday as hurricane Matthew approaches the coast from the south.

*We continue to track hurricane Matthew. The hurricane will continue to move north over the next few days and track through the Bahamas. It will move towards the southeast coast late in the week. At this time, the storm will likely approach or even make contact with the NC/SC coast in the Saturday/Sunday time frame.

Matthew will gradually shift northeast, into the Atlantic Sunday and Monday. Depending on how quickly the storm changes direction, will determine the exact impacts. Regardless of the exact track, coastal communities should remain weather alert throughout the week.*

Coastal areas in the Carolinas could see 100mph winds as the storm is expected to be a category 2 hurricane as it approaches the area.  Early predictions are showing Charleston could get up to 15″ of rain and Myrtle Beach could see up to 7″ of rain.

At this time, no major impacts are expected in Charlotte.
