UPDATE: Officials say that Noah Hampton passed away from his injuries sustained in Monday’s accident.
CHERRYVILLE, NC — The Cherryville community is rallying around two local high school students injured in a crash Monday afternoon.
The accident happened around 5pm on Roy Eaker Road. According to troopers, Clint Gant and Noah Hampton were headed toward Robert Road when Gant lost control of his Ford F-250 and rolled the truck about one and a half times.
Gant was treated and released, but Hampton had to be flown to CMC around 9pm Monday and was in critical condition, according to officials.
Peers have also taken to social media and many are asking for everyone to wear red Wednesday to show support for the two teens.
According to reports, Gant was going 65 in a 55 at the time of the accident.
Investigators say charges are pending against Gant, and the case will be taken to the District Attorney.
