Autopsy Shows Deaf Man Shot By Trooper Was Not Impaired
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The autopsy for a deaf man killed by a North Carolina State Trooper has been released.
Daniel Harris, 29, was shot once in the chest by Trooper Jermaine Saunders on August 18th, according to the autopsy.
Saunders claims Harris was speeding on I-485 and refused to pull over. Troopers say they reached speeds up to 100mph during the pursuit down I-485 that ended in a north Charlotte neighborhood.
Saunders claims he tried to stop Harris’ vehicle by using a strategic ramming maneuver and then by trying a rolling road block.
Harris eventually stopped his vehicle on Seven Oaks Drive and reportedly got out of the vehicle and attempted to run, according to Troopers. That’s when Saunders said he fired his weapon.
Harris was not armed. The autopsy revealed that Harris was not under any type of substances and was not impaired.
He died from injuries he suffered from the gunshot wound, according to the autopsy. It damaged his heart, right lung and liver.
