Second Suspect Arrested In October 12th Armed Robbery And Officer Involved Shooting Case At Cash America Pawn
Update Tuesday, October 18th at 8:50pm: Police have charged Jamaal Westbrooks, 25, for his involvement in the October 12th robbery and officer involved shooting at Cash America Pawn Shop on Wilkinson Blvd.
Westbrooks has been charged with Robbery with Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with Dangerous Weapon.
CMPD previously identified the officer involved in the shooting as Officer Kendrick Williams, and the robbery suspect that was wounded was identified as Bobby Hargrove, 19.
Officials say Officer Kendrick, a six year veteran of the force, has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, which is standard procedure.
Hargrove, after being cleared by medical staff at CMC, was taken into custody and charged with three counts of Kidnapping, Robbery with Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with Dangerous Weapon, and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm.
The investigation is still ongoing.
An employee at nearby Hyatt Gun Shop sent in cell phone footage of the earlier scene.
CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD is investigating an officer involved shooting after officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Cash America Pawn Shop on Wilkinson Boulevard Wednesday evening.
Officials say just before 7pm a caller reported two suspects entering the business armed with guns. When police arrived and entered the store one suspect fired a shot at officers who then fired back.
The suspect was arrested and taken to CMC with non-life threatening injuries. Detectives say the injury is very minor and are working to determine whether it was caused by a graze from the officer’s weapon or by some other means.
Police and SWAT surrounded the area and were on scene for several hours before clearing.
One suspect did flee the area before the initial officers arrived on scene, according to officials, and they are currently looking for that suspect.
CMPD says the investigation is ongoing, and the names of the suspect and officer involved in the shooting will be released at a later time.
