South Carolina Tops SEC Preseason Women’s Basketball Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Defending Southeastern Conference women’s basketball champion South Carolina is picked to win a fourth straight league title by a panel of SEC and national media.AR-141039950.jpg&maxw=800&q=90

The SEC announced Tuesday that South Carolina forward A’ja Wilson was selected as the SEC’s preseason player of the year.

The Gamecocks won the league regular-season title in 2014 and 2016. South Carolina shared the league’s regular-season crown with Tennessee in 2015.

In the preseason poll, South Carolina was followed by Mississippi State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Arkansas, LSU, Alabama and Mississippi.

The preseason all-conference team included Wilson, Kentucky’s Makayla Epps, Mississippi State’s Victoria Vivians, South Carolina’s Alaina Coates and Tennessee’s Diamond DeShields.
