Governor McCrory: The Floodwaters Are Finally Receding
NORTH CAROLINA — Wednesday afternoon Governor Pat McCrory spoke to North Carolinians about the recovery efforts taking place in areas hit hard by Hurricane Matthew.
The Governor opened by saying, “It has been 16 days since I declared a state of emergency in North Carolina, and finally the floodwaters of Hurricane Matthew are receding.” He went on to provide words of thanks, condolence, and hope for those who have helped and lost during this unexpected disaster.
McCrory laid out plans and priorities moving forward, and actions being taken to aid in the recovery efforts for those hardest hit.
“We know that we have a long way to go,” said McCrory. Today a new state of emergency was issued for Brunswick County following a water main break, 500 roads still remain closed or under lane restrictions, and nearly 1000 NC residents are still in shelters.
The Hurricane Matthew Recovery Committee has been established, according to Governor McCrory, to oversee the recovery efforts.
“I am confident that our state will provide the recovery that our fellow citizens deserve,” said McCrory, “and working together we will recover, we will rebuild, and we will do it the right way.”
