Suspects Barricaded In E. Charlotte Apartment Surrender After Nearly 4 Hour Standoff
UPDATE: Police say two female suspects have surrendered following a nearly four hour standoff with police and SWAT.
Their names and charges have not yet been released.
UPDATE: WCCB’s Amy Cowman is still on scene of the SWAT situation involving to armed robbery suspects barricaded in an apartment. The standoff has been going on for over three hours, and witnesses say they just heard a “loud boom.” No word has been given as to what that noise was.
CHARLOTTE, NC — More than a dozen police units are on the scene at Peppertree Apartments where two armed robbery suspects have barricaded themselves inside.
Police say officers located a vehicle around 4:45pm that was stolen Thursday morning during an armed robbery. CMPD’s helicopter unit followed the vehicle back to the Peppertree Apartment complex at Kilborne Drive and Central Avenue where the suspects jumped out and ran inside.
Officers have closed off the entrances to the complex and are attempting to negotiate with the suspects.
According to officials, residents at the complex have been evacuated as a precaution. SWAT and K9 units have now also arrived on scene to assist.
