CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A local college was placed on lockdown after officials say they received information about a possible armed person on or near campus.
Catawba Valley Community College’s Main and East campus were placed on lockdown just after 12 p.m. on Friday.
School officials sent out a message on Twitter and Facebook shortly after the lockdown stating:
“May I have your attention please. Lock Down. Lock Down. Follow Lock Down procedures immediately on the Main Campus and on the East Campus. This is not a test. If you are exposed, please seek a safe location immediately.”
There has been information that has come to our attention indicating a possible person with a weapon may be on or near a campus with Catawba in the name of the school. No injuries or actual threats have been identified. We are acting with an abundance of caution. Along with CVCC Security, Catawba County Sheriff Department is on the scene. Please continue to follow set protocol until further notice.
Follow Lock Down procedures immediately on the Main Campus and on the East Campus. This is not a test. If you are exposed, please seek a safe location immediately.”
