Teen Dies In Shooting One Day Before 18th Birthday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Detectives with CMPD have charged 28-year-old Terrance Darryl Gilbert with the murder of Jahee Tycari Hoke.

Officials say that evidence gathered during the investigation led detectives in identifying Gilbert as the suspect in this case.

The Homicide Unit signed a warrant for Murder on Gilbert and requested the assistance of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

CMPD says that earlier this morning, the VCAT coordinated Gilbert’s arrest at police headquarters.

Officials say that Gilbert was interviewed by Homicide Detectives and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say the shooting happened in the Steele Creek area on Armour Ridge Drive around 6:23pm. According to officials, officers were called after a fight broke out in the street, but shots were fired before police could arrive on scene. Jahee Hoke was found laying in the street, and was pronounced dead by Medic.  Friday would have been his 18th birthday.

Detectives are talking to witnesses, and say this is an active investigation.
