Community Discussion On Charlotte Protests

CHARLOTTE, NC– “Four shots , bam bam bam bam did you shoot him?” Yelled Public defender Toussaint Romain.

A dramatic start to a dramatic conversation.

Public defender Toussaint Romain joined protestors in the streets after the police shooting of Keith Scott.

Each night he was on the front lines trying to keep the peace and yet support the cause.

“This was nothing new this was just something that was waiting to happen there’s been a bubbling of frustration and some anger and tension that’s been existing for awhile not just in charlotte but nationwide,” said Romain

Romain presented real discussion Monday night at Queens University on racism, inherent bias and the big question, where do you we go from here?

“We still don’t know how and what we need to do so I was intrigued by the question for one and tonight the very same thing we got the answer we have to do our part,” said Charlotte resident, Teesha Boyd.

And part of that Romain says is being aware of our role , our prejudices between black and white.

“We still have work to do as a community we still need to have an open dialogue about race we need to talk about more things obviously,” said protestor, Andrew Fede.

Romain says he wants the community to feel optimistic about Charlotte’s future for example the city leaders though they might not have been there the night of the turmoil are now trying to do their part. So we all need to move forward.

“They’re trying now and they’re making the efforts and trying to help our community build again and I commend our mayor and elected officials for making improvements and trying to do something now,” said Romain.
