Gag Order Doesn’t Stop Release of Jordyn Dumont Medical Reports
GASTON CO., N.C. – If Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell forgot to include medical examiners in his gag order requests for the Jordyn Dumont case, or if he wanted their reports public, he isn’t saying.
WCCB’s Morgan Fogarty emailed him Wednesday and asked if he had any comment on what the reports revealed. He didn’t respond.
She emailed him Thursday and asked if he forgot to include the medical examiners in his gag order requests or wanted the public to see their reports. He didn’t respond.
The reports are disturbing and graphic. One, from the state, indicates there was vomit around Jordyn’s nostrils and mouth. It said the little girl, who weighed just 32 pounds, was wearing a shirt with the words “Best Big Sister” and jean shorts.
She was wrapped in a fitted black sheet in a hole in the woods, under broken tree limbs and leaves. Her underwear was pulled down over her upper thighs and fluid stained.
Her clothing was turned over to the Gaston County Police for testing. That fluid could have been urine, or something else. The police can’t speak, because of the gag order.
The medical records show Jordyn was hit on her head, hard enough to cause two brain bleeds. She was hit on her face. Her chest. Her abdomen, hard enough to cause internal bleeding and ruptured organs. There were at least six bruises on her right arm and hand. 14 on her left arm and hand. She was hit on her back. Her bottom. There was an old abrasion on her right thigh. At least 11 bruises on her right leg and foot. At least 15 on her left leg and foot.
Her cause of death: blunt force injuries due to assault.
Jordyn’s father and his girlfriend tell WCCB, “It’s just so heartbreaking. It’s hard to see and for the whole world to be seeing, too.”
One of Jaylene’s family members tells me, “We are very devastated and mourning. We all read the medical report.”
Jaylene is Jordyn’s mother. Jaylene’s boyfriend, Skip McCullen, is charged with first degree murder. He’s in the Gaston County Jail. In addition to Jordyn’s clothing, the medical examiner also released a sexual assault kit, fingernail swabs and trace sheets to the Gaston County Police.
