Study: Toddlers Eat too much Salt & Sugar, not enough Fruits & Veggies

Junk food disguised as healthy snacks. What parents need to know about popular food labeled as "healthy".

CHARLOTTE, NC — It can be stressful to make sure kids get the right nutrition, especially when you’re on the go. Experts say there are a lot of popular foods markets to babies and toddlers as “healthy” that are misleading, and that’s actually junk food disguised as healthy snacks.

You  may think you’re giving your kids healthy food, but thanks to trick advertisement – they’re getting too much of the bad stuff.

A new report by the Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at the University of Connecticut shows toddlers do not get enough fruits and vegetables. The study also shows they’re eating too much sugar, sodium, and salt.

Experts suggest feeding kids a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables so they can explore different tastes and textures. Also make sure to include them in family meal time and feed them what you’re eating in smaller bites or food that’s cooked a little softer.

Kristine Zell sat down with Dr. Jennifer Harris who worked on the study.
