According to reports, the shooting happened around 9:45pm at a home on Treeline Drive. The boyfriend, Jason Tenor, called 911 and told them he had accidentally shot his girlfriend, Cortney Smith. Officials found Smith on the bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to the head when they arrived, and she was pronounced dead soon after.

Witnesses who were inside the home when the shooting happened told deputies that the couple could be heard laughing inside the room just before the shot was heard. Tenor then immediately came out of the room, told them he had accidentally shot the victim, and called 911.

Detectives say Tenor was very cooperative with the investigation and admitted to handling the gun recklessly, but believed it to be unloaded because the clip had been removed. Tenor said the gun belonged to another person who had left it at the home a few days earlier, but admitted to owning marijuana and other paraphernalia found in the bedroom.

Tenor has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Possession of Marijuana, and Possess Drug Paraphernalia. Officials say Tenor was on unsupervised probation for prior marijuana related offenses.
