Health Officials Confirm Rabid Cat Found In Waxhaw

WAXHAW, NC — Officials with the Union County Division of Public Health confirm a rabid cat was found Wednesday.

Health officials say the cat was found in the area of West Waxhaw Parkway near Providence Road South. The cat was a grey domestic that had neurological symptoms consistent with rabies, according to reports, and tests confirmed.

The rabies virus is usually transmitted via bite from the infected animal or contact with saliva that enters through the eyes, nose, mouth, or open wound.

Any person who believes they may have come in contact with the animal should contact his or her doctor immediately, or call the Communicable Disease line of the Division of Public Health at 704-296-4878 or 704-296-4874.

Anyone with concern that their pet may have come in contact should call their veterinarian or the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Animal Services Bureau at 704-283-2308.
