NC — During a news conference Thursday, Governor Pat McCrory said a reward of up to $10,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest of whomever may have started the wildfires.
So far Governor McCrory says there has been roughly $15 million spent, 46,0000 acres burned, and over 2100 fire and emergency crew members dispatched to help fight the fires. The governor says he has been in contact with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, and that the states are working together and sharing resources to battle these fires.
Though it is still not yet known whether the wildfires were intentionally or accidentally started, McCrory says it is believed that they are man made. The governor said towards the end of his conference that “these are California wildfires burning in North Carolina,” and residents of this area have not seen an event like this here in our lifetimes.
