Black and Blue Review’s Bill Voth on Kuechly’s Concussion

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Black and Blue Review founder and sports reporter Bill Voth weighs in on Luke Kuechly’s concussion and football culture.

He says, “Derek Anderson, when he was about to start for Cam Newton, went up to the podium. Someone asked him how many concussions he had. He said, ‘I don’t know, 5 or 6.’ And then he told some story about how his first one, he was in high school. And he yelled at his sister because she ate his sandwich. But he actually ate the sandwich. And he didn’t know because of the concussion. And we all laughed. Derek didn’t mean anything harmful by the story. But we’re still not taking this stuff seriously. Every day on Twitter, you get people asking, when is Michael Oher coming back? And whether they’re making jokes or they’re annoyed that he’s not back or annoyed the Panthers aren’t putting him on injured reserve, like, I know you’re a fan, but how does this affect you? This guy’s brain is injured. Let him have time to heal.”

Kuechly is in the league’s concussion protocol. He missed three games last year with a concussion. There are six games left this season.
