CMPD Major Mike Campagna Named Charlottean of the Year

CHARLOTTE, NC — One man honored for his efforts after violent riots rocked our city. Major Mike Campagna has received the Charlottean of the Year award, presented by Charlotte Magazine.

He stepped up during the unrest that followed the officer-involved shooting of Keith Scott,Β having the first one-on-one conversations directly with protestors. Charlotte Magazine says the award goes to Campagna because he gained trust of many protestors who wanted dialogue, and Maj. Campagna spoke up. Here’s how it sounded that night:

“We need that back and forth, so we see you as people and you see us as people. I agree with that 100 percent” said Maj. Campagna.

“And this is what we gonna need to do right now, community. So we can get everybody on the same page,” respondedΒ one protestor.

Campagna has been with CMPD since 1992.Β He was promoted from captain to major last month.
