UPDATE: Troopers say the accident happened after a slow moving SUV with mechanical issues was rear ended by a tractor trailer.
Witnesses say the SUV was going about 5mph in a 65mph zone when the tractor trailer rear ended them. The SUV caught fire after the impact but witnesses were able to pull the driver and passenger, both male, out.
The driver of the SUV was killed from the impact, according to officials. The passenger of the SUV and driver of the tractor trailer were transported to the hospital by medic. At this time, officials say no charges will be filed.
All lanes in the area have reopened.

GASTON COUNTY, NC — Troopers are investigating after one person was killed in an accident on Highway 321 northbound Monday afternoon.
Officials with the Highway Patrol say that the accident happened around 2:30pm on HWY 321 just north of High Shoals Road near the Gaston and Lincoln County lines. The highway has been closed off near exit 20 while troopers investigate. A detour is in place but drivers will want to seek an alternate route to avoid delays.
