UPDATE: Officials have identified the man as Raysion “Ray” Valentine.
The Sheriff’s office also says they will not be releasing the name of the deputy involved due to the nature of his undercover work.

UPDATE: Officials say that the man shot by deputies during a drug investigation Monday afternoon has died.
The SBI is investigating the incident, as is standard procedure with any officer/deputy involved shootings.

HICKORY, NC — Officials are investigating a deputy involved shooting after a man was shot during a drug investigation Monday afternoon.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting happened around 4:20pm at a home on 15th Street NE. Officials say the suspect has life threatening injuries.
