Keith Scott Family Attorneys Considering Civil Lawsuit

CHARLOTTE, NC – Keith Scott’s family members say they are disappointed by the decision not to charge Officer Vinson.

“Obviously this is a difficult day for Rakeyia Scott and the entire Scott family,” says attorney Charles Monnett.

Attorneys for the family say while they appreciate the evidence laid out by the District Attorney, they argue it doesn’t justify Scott’s killing.

“That does not mean that this officer’s killing of Keith Scott was right. All that means is that, under the view of the DA’s office, it wasn’t criminal,” says attorney Justin Bamberg.

There’s still more they want to know.

“Were these officers properly trained? Were they following their own departmental policies? Were the procedures that were in effect reasonable?” Monnett asks.

And if the facts warrant it, they intent to pursue a civil lawsuit.

“We firmly believe this situation could have ended with everyone remaining alive,” Monnett says.
