UPDATE: Deputies have arrested Joseph King, 35, in connection to the shooting that happened Tuesday morning on Old Union Church Road.
Investigators say King was an acquaintance of the victim, Johnny Leonard. Leonard, according to reports, was giving King a ride Monday night when King pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times. King then drove Leonard’s car to an isolated section of Old Union Church Road and robbed him of his wallet and car. Officials say King shot Leonard again and covered his body with trash before taking off.
Tuesday morning, Leonard woke and managed to seek help.
King is charged with felony Robbery, felony Kidnapping, and felony Attempted Murder. He is being held under a $1 million secured bond at the Rowan County Detention Center.

SPENCER, NC — Rowan County deputies and Spencer Police are looking for the suspect they say robbed and shot a man before stealing his car Tuesday morning.
Around 8:20am police and deputies responded to a call about a bloody white male walking down the road with no pants. They eventually located 57-year-old Johnny Leonard of Salisbury walking along Old Union Church Road with multiple gunshot wounds. Leonard was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and interviewed by detectives.
Investigators say Leonard met the suspect near the Food Lion in Spencer Monday evening. Sometime after meeting, the suspect robbed Leonard of his wallet and his 2006 Subaru, according to reports.
The vehicle is described as being green with damage to the back bumper, and has NC tag number DJV2253.
Officials say they do have a person of interest, but they are still looking for any additional information anyone may have on the case.
