UNION COUNTY, NC — A jury in Union County convicted Reginald Allen, 40, of the first degree murder of his wife, Alicia Sligh, Tuesday.
The verdict came after nearly two weeks of testimony and the viewing of hundreds of pieces of evidence, according to a release. Allen was sentenced to life in prison following the verdict.
According to officials, Allen and Sligh got into a fight on March 9, 2014. Allen forced Sligh into the driver’s seat of her car and made her drive away from their home. Officials say Allen then shot Sligh, a mother of two, execution-style and fled the vehicle on foot. Sligh’s body was found in the car a short time later less than a mile from their home.
“Alicia Sligh’s death is a brutal wakeup call about the continuing danger of domestic violence in our community,” said District Attorney Trey Robison.“She was the ultimate victim of domestic violence, dying at the hands of her husband, someone she loved. Prosecuting domestic violence assaults and intervening in the cycle of domestic abuse is and always has been a priority for my office.”
