Veterans Receive New Service Dogs
CHARLOTTE, NC– Veteran amputees, paired with highly trained service dogs, for what will be a life-changing partnership.
Through an event with NASCAR legends Darrell and Michael Waltrip, the Dog Knowledge in Charlotte got sponsorship for two puppies to be trained as services dogs for disabled vets.
Both First Sergeant Marcus Wilson and Sergeant Gregory Hedrick are amputees, and both needed dogs, but had been put on a waiting list. Now both have trained, canine companions.
“We’ve spent the last week going to restaurants and movie theaters, and all around Charlotte, as they bonded with their dog and learned how to maneuver in public, with a service dog, on a prosthesis,” said Debbie Lange who owns the Dog Knowlege.
“He helps me with daily tasks. And he’s a mobility dog. And he means the world to me, like he is my right-hand man,” said Sergent Wilson.
Today was the official hand off for these dogs to the vets.
Both Marcus and Greg will return to their homes in California and Wilmington tomorrow with their new best friends.
