Teen Charged In Fatal Fire

UNION CO., NC– A teen is now facing murder and arson charges after a fatal fire in Union County.

Police say 19-year-old Monica Rivera set fire to the home.

Rivera’s sister and 67-year-old Susan Smith were also living in the home.

It happened around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon on Mill Grove Road.

We’re told deputies we able to pull Rivera and her sister out of the home but were unable to reach Smith.  She died on the way to the hospital. Rivera is now charged with first-degree murder and arson.
