Teen Facing Murder And Arson Charges After Woman Dies In Union County Fire

UPDATE: Authorities say, 19-year-old, Monica Kimberly Rivera is facing charges of First Degree Murder and First Degree Arson in connection with a deadly fire that occurred yesterday afternoon
at 8007 Mill Grove Road in northwest Union County near Indian Trail.

Further investigation has determined that Rivera and her sister were living with the female victim for a period of time, and were the only occupants at the home at the time of the fire.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and extent of the
victim’s injuries. The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation.
UPDATE: Officials say the woman that was airlifted after being rescued from a burning home has died at the hospital.
INDIAN TRAIL, NC — A woman was airlifted to the hospital Wednesday afternoon, and three Union County sheriff’s deputies were treated for smoke inhalation following a 9-1-1 call about a person with a knife and a house fire.Img 9465
A sheriff’s office spokesman says deputies responded to the call about the knife on Mill Grove Road near Lawyers Rd. The house was on fire when they got there, and they rescued a woman from the house. Two other younger females were also in the house but got out safely. The deputies went to the hospital but are expected to be OK.
At this hour, firefighters are still on the scene of the fire, Mill Grove Road remains closed. Deputies are investigating if the call about the knife is related to the fire.
