CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD has charged 28-year-old Carico Hayward with the murder of Ellis Bradham.
Officials say Hayward was arrested yesterday for an unrelated warrant and was then interviewed by homicide detectives.
Hayward was then charged with Murder and a Probation Violation.
Detectives say Hayward and Bradham knew each other.
This is an ongoing investigation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9500 block of Bellhaven Boulevard in the North Division after a deceased man with a gunshot wound was located lying in woods in Shuffletown Park at 11am Friday. The man was positively identified as 27 year-old Ellis Bradham.
Ellis Bradham had been reported missing on Monday, December 19, by his sister Kenya Smith, after he had left a friends apartment the previous day and wasn’t seen or heard from since. Detectives with CMPD’s Missing Persons Unit were notified and began an investigation into his disappearance, later joined by detectives with the Homicide Unit.
Later Friday, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested a person of interest in this case for an unrelated warrant. The suspect was then transported to police headquarters where he is currently being interviewed by detectives.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit are canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident.
