RALEIGH, NC — Governor-elect Roy Cooper’s transition team announced Tuesday that Cooper will be sworn in as the 75th governor of North Carolina just after midnight on January 1st.
Officials say Cooper will join Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and a small group of family and staff at the State Capital just after midnight Sunday. NC Chief Justice Mark Martin will then administer the oath of office.
While a public inauguration will not take place until January 7th, officials say the NC Constitution does allow the new governor to take over on January 1st.
