SBI Investigating Trooper Involved Shooting in Gastonia

GASTONIA, NC —  UPDATE: The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation says they are investigating a shooting involving a highway patrol trooper in Gaston County.

The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the B&B Antique and Artisan Mall on West Franklin Boulevard. Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell tells WCCB, the trooper was conducting a routine traffic stop on a vehicle when the vehicle tried to get away. The trooper pursued the vehicle before the vehicle stopped at the antique mall. According to the District Attorney, the suspect attempted to drive the vehicle up a hill but was unsuccesful. While backing the vehicle up, the suspect pinned the trooper between the suspect’s vehicle and the trooper’s car. A shot was fired inside the car, striking the suspect.

Both the suspect and the trooper were transported to an area hospital to be checked out. Both are expected to be okay.
