Expect Uptown Road Closures for New Year’s Eve
CHARLOTTE, NC — With thousands expected to pack Uptown Charlotte Saturday night for New Year’s Eve, the city has declared its annual celebration an extraordinary event. That means police will have the power to search anyone they think is suspicious. They’ll also patrol the crowds from the ground and the air.
The celebration starts at Romare Bearden Park at 8pm. Several streets in Uptown will be shut down for New Year’s celebrations.
The closings include:
- One lane of Mint Street between 3rd and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard closed at 9 am Friday.
- One lane of 3rd Street between Mint and Church Streets will close Saturday at 5 pm.
- Mint Street between 3rd Street and MLK Boulevard will close Saturday at 4pm.
Those streets will re-open on Sunday.
